Connection Is An Act Of Rebellion.

So I stole that phrase. It was from a play called Shedding A Skin by Amanda Wilkin. I had seen the show not knowing much about it and I loved the message. We can break free of pre-existing notions about who people are and what they believe. We can form bonds beyond everyday routine lives. 

How can seeing and connecting with someone else’s humanity be so radical? We live in a world, for better or for worse, that attempts to categorize and separate people from one another based on income, race, religion, politics. Travel tears down those barriers. It reminds us of our universal humanity. We connect with people from different countries, different eras, different backgrounds. Most importantly, we re-connect with ourselves, who we truly are. 

I challenge you to take that step. Explore a new culture. Read about history. Listen to new music. You might find out that you don’t just fit into the usual definition of who you are and who other people are. You might start on a journey where you never return to your old self and you find new connections that open you to a whole new world.
